A WORKSHOP FOR EDUCATORS
Date: Sunday, April 29, 2018 @ 1:00-3:30 p.m.
Registration: Pre-registration is required.
Location: WellSpring Studio 810 E Ashman St, Midland.
Teacher: Jen Rapanos, LMSW, RCYT. Child & adolescent therapist, registered children's yoga teacher, owner of Well-Bean, LLC.
Teachers today are held accountable for student’s achievement even when multiple factors beyond their control influence student’s capacity to achieve. We know from research that children today are experiencing stress at new levels and that mental health disorders are on the rise, we also know that a stressed brain inhibits learning.
While the natural order of the classroom has always been for students to sit and take in information, sitting for long periods of time is often inappropriate for the developmental needs of our children and counterintuitive to what brain science says maximizes learning. Furthermore, many students are showing up in our classrooms unable to attend to learning because what's going on in the "inside" is so big and with limited awareness they have limited skills to self-manage those internal experiences.
While our teachers should not be expected to be mental health practitioners, the reality is that many of their students have mental health needs that have to be considered in order for our teachers to do their work of teaching. This workshop was designed specifically to support our educators in learning how to attune to the needs of the whole child. Together we will explore the need for movement and awareness-based practices in classroom and the relationship to priming your students for learning. This workshop will inspire you to bring simple (movement, focused-attention, breathing exercises and relaxation) practices into your classroom. There’s absolutely no yoga experience required to attend this workshop, only an openness to learning. Space is limited so if you feel called to attend, please register! Workshop/$40 +processing fee.
